Kate has always been one of the most supportive, funny, and talented people I know. She was one of the first musicians I danced to at the Wednesday Arlington Heights English dances, and we are spoiled rotten by her talent and sheer joy in her playing.
During one Wednesday, Bury Fair was on the program and, while I was out at the top, I started doing the macarena because it fit perfectly to get my partner and me right back into the dance. Kate, Jacqueline Schwab, and Mary Lea noticed this and threw in some reggae flair to the tune. It made so many people laugh and groove, and made that moment so much more special. It's still a mystery how Kate kept a straight face while playing the flute!
We've talked many times about tunes that sound like other, non-dance tunes (I think The Mickey Mouse Club was in there somewhere) and it has led to some fabulous restylings.
She's one of the kindest souls I know, and has never failed to put a smile on my face with her music, conversation, hugs, and wonderful pottery sales.
Kate, congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. I'm so happy to have met you and can't wait to get grooving with you again soon!
