Extract of a letter from Ninety-Six, dated the 10th Instant.
I have the pleasure to acquaint you, that I am now almost
convinced we shall have a firm peace with the Cherokees, as
I have just heard from Augusta, that the young warrior of
Estatowih has been there with John Vann, that he had
expressed a desire to the people of Augusta, and to Mr.
Dunnet Commander of the Fort, that the peace might be
everlasting, upon which occasion the people there, as well
as the outsettlers, rejoiced greatly, and Mr. Dunnet caused
the cannon of the Fort to be fired every two hours
throughout the day, and the drums to beat, &c. The young-
warrior is now looked upon as the principal leading man of
the Lower Towns.
