Rome, March 14. The ceremonies performed after the death of
the late Pope were as follows: . . . [17 lines] The next
night it was laid in an open hearse of crimson velvet, and
the master of ceremonies going before, it was conducted by
the aforesaid fathers, and the footmen, encompass'd by the
Swiss Guards and a troop of horse, followed by seven pieces
of cannon, and two trumpets, with burning flambeaux, . . .
