London, March 28. . . They write from Cambridge, that on
Wednesday last the ceremony of laying the first stone of the
new buildings at King's College was perform'd there, by the
Reverend Provost, Dr. Andrew Snape, with great solemnity;
the Te Deum being first sung by Mr. Hughes of St. Paul's and
others, and a sermon preached by the Reverend Mr. Doughty.
The stone which had laid in the Chappel Yard of King's
College, half saw'd ever since the said Chappel was built,
was made use of on this occasion with an elegant Latin
inscription compos'd by the Provost.
