London. . . January 1. . . On Sunday morning a voluntier in
the Wars of Venus, an inhabitant of St. Paul's church-yard,
did penance in a white sheet, in St. Gregory's Parish-
church; and 'twas observed he behaved with great courage,
having for two or three days before stood in the sheet in
the Sun-Tavern kitchen, by way of rehearsal. The Clerk of
the parish set part of the 130th psalm, in which is the
following stanza; by which one would think he had a very
good opinion of the rest of the parishioners.
O Lord our God, if thou survey
Our sins, and them peruse,
Who shall escape? or who dare say
I can my self excuse? &c. &c.
