Nov. 15. The extraordinary rejoicings of Wednesday night in
honour of Admiral Vernon are almost incredible. Both in
city and suburbs there were innumerable bonfires, a score
whereof in some places to be seen at one view; and the high
streets particularly so illuminated, that they seem'd all in
a aflame; and scarce a tavern, or noted houses, but had
their various companies carousing over their bottles and
bowls, with healths to his Majesty, the Royal Family,
Admiral Vernon, and all true patriots, whilst the bells were
ringing, and guns firing without. . .
