Franckfort, July 3. According to a list that may be
depended on, the French lost in the late battle [Dettingen]
5050 men, besides 1760 taken prisoners. There have also
been taken 1180 horses, 12 standards, 5 colours, 22 pieces
of cannon, and a pair of kettle-drums. The French made a
jest of the report, that they had a number of men drowned in
passing the Maine; but the late heavy rains has put this
fact entirely out of doubt, since the river has thrown up a
great number of the dead bodies, of which many have been
interr'd in our neighbourhood.
