Newport, July 5. On Tuesday last 2 transports, having on
board 3 companies in the pay of this colony, sail'd from
hence for Cape Breton. Yesterday, late in the afternoon, the
good news of the surrender of Louisburg was received here
with the greatest demonstrations of joy, such as ringing all
the bells, and repeated discharges of all the cannon, a
large bonfire, and the whole town finely illuminated. It
was observed several guns fired by the privateers were
(thro' carelessness) shotted, but no body received any
damage.
