London, Oct. 6. An Italian translation of Mr. Addison's
excellent comedy, call'd The Drummer; or, the Haunted House,
being lately published at Rome; the inquisition has caused
it to be suppress'd, as containing sentiments in their
opinion, contrary to religion and sound morals. The real
view of that piece was, to ridicule superstition and
profaneness; and this is in so judicious, so correct, and
delicate a manner, that it has been always considered as an
honour to the British stage.
