Kingston, in Jamaica, July 28. Last Saturday arrived the
ship Elizabeth, John Markham, commander from London, but
last from Falmouth in Casco-Bay, by whom we learn, that on
the 20th inst. (being then on his passage hither) off Cape
Tiberoon about ten leagues; at half past one was attacked by
a French snow privateer, mounting 16 carriage guns, besides
swivels, and full of men: The privateer ranged along side
the Elizabeth, with all her warlike trophies, music, &c.
gave three cheers, and then ordered Capt. Markham to strike
to the King of France, but the resolute Capt. Markham,
hoisted two colours, one a jack at the mizen-peek, and a new
ensign on the staff,. . . [3/4ths col. in all.]
