Halifax, in Nova-Scotia, Nov. 27. 1762. The Honourable
Jonathan Belcher, Esq; Lieutenant-Governor and Commander in
Chief of this province, having received advice from
Whitehall, of the Queen's happy delivery of a Prince on the
12th of August last, together with the London Gazette
Extraordinary, publish'd upon that occasion, has appointed
Friday the 3d of December a day of public rejoicing on
account of this joyful event. . .
Dec. 4. Yesterday having been appointed as a day of public
rejoicing for the Prince of Wales's birth,. . . [2/5ths col

afternoon the ladies and gentlemen, by a general invitation
of His Honour the Lieutenant Governor, assembled at the
governor's house, and heard a grand concert of music
performed in the highest taste, and with great applause.
After dusk the town was entertained very [sic] with curious
and well design'd fire-works played off by the Company of
the Royal artillery, consisting of the greatest variety of
sky and water rockets, fire-wheels, representation of the
sun, men compleatly accoutred, &c. that ever was exhibited
here, or any where, as we believe in North America. After
which a ball was given by the Lieutenant Governor, to a
numerous and brilliant assembly of ladies and gentlemen, at
eleven the side boards were opened with a very splendid
entertainment. The whole was conducted with the greatest
decorum and the evening concluded with the highest
demonstrations of the general joy.
