Apr 24. Yesterday the merchants trading to North-America
gave an entertainment at Draper's Hall in Throgmorton
street, at which a greater number of the nobility and
members of Parliament attended, than have honoured the city
with their presence for many years past.
The company yesterday at Drapers-Hall was very numerous,
and the most brilliant almost ever seen in the city of
London. There were said to be about 240 who dined, amongst
whom were nine dukes, and a very considerable number more of
the nobility, and the members of the house of commons, who
honoured the American merchants with their company. Mr.
Sheriff Trecothic was chairman, and the whole entertainment,
which was very magnificent, was conducted with great
regularity, and many loyal and constitutional toasts were
drank. There was a large band of music which performed in
the hall during dinner-time, and until late in the evening.
