Index Entry | Bells, in Newburyport, tolled for anniversary of Boston massacre |
Location | Newburyport |
Citation | BEP(F.773.010 5 Apr 1773:23 (1958) Extract of a letter from Newbury Port, March 15. On the evening of the 5th instant [the anniversary of the Boston Massacre], the several bells here were tolled from 7 o'clock to 9, and two drums muffled were beat through the streets, and a number of young persons followed in procession, with as much solemnity as if they had been attending a funeral. I imagine considerable improvements will be made another year on this procedure. |
