Providence, October 27. On the arrival of an express from
Newport, on Thursday afternoon, with a printed hand-bill,
containing an account of the surrender of Lord Cornwallis
and his army, to his Excellency General Washington, and his
Excellency Count de Grasse; thirteen cannon were discharged,
the French and American flags (with the British beneath)
displayed, the bells were rang and other demonstrations of
joy shewn. Last evening there was a splendid ball at
Hacker's hall, given by a gentleman of Virginia, and an
exhibition of fire-works. . .
