Sir, The irreversible decrees of the Almighty have placed
man in such a situation with regard to his fugitive passage
through this world to eternity, as to render a permanent
succession of rapture and sensual delight unattainable and
absolutely impossible; his nature and facilities being so
oppositely blended, as to deny him a continuation of extasy
