THE PETITION.
To de sleekmen of Tonbos de humble petison,
Of certain poor neger wid all due submission:
Shew dat Fader Toby our 'postle and teacher,
De only true doctor and great gospel preacher,
For long time to come he preach consolason,
To de faint, --to de sinner damnason:
Not so de new 'postles misser St--r and M--y, 
Da send all to heav'n quite glib, hurry scurry:
No matter how much he got drunk, cheat and steal,
Wheneber he die he do bery well--
But good doctor Toby, he say the good words,
Pronouncee damnation from de mout of de Lord;
To rogue of all sort--who will not repent,
So after dare dead to h--ll dare all sent.
He say ye mus washee and make bery white,
Before ye can see de only true light--
Lond time Toby preach in littee small house,
In which you can't swing a cat or a mouse;
Now summer he come, he makee hot wedder,
Bery bad when'e neger he croud tick togedder:
Darefore we pray dat good neger man,
Who do for poor soul whateber he can,
For sake of he conschence by night and by day,
In Funny H--ll chamber may preach, sing and pray.
