Gloucester-City, August 1, 1720. This being his Majesty's
inauguration day, the same was observ'd here in the
following manner, viz. The morning was usher'd in not only
by peals of ringing from the several churches, but also by
drums, trumpets, and [ ] musick, with discharging of some
fire-arms.
It being the assizes, the mayor and corporation, all in
their scarlet, attended by the masters and wardens of the
twelve companies with their flags and streamers, drums and
musick, before them, waited on their lordships the judges to
the Cathedral Church, where a loyal and suitable sermon was
preach'd by Mr. Benj. Newton. . .
