Hanover July 29. The King set out from Herenhausen the 23d
instant. . . [2d para.: On the 24th after dinner, he
continued his journey to Clausthal, where he arrived at six
in the evening. The miners were drawn up in files, some
with lighted lamps in their hands, and others playing upon
their sort of musick. There were likewise 120 carters who
had such a smack with their whips that it resembled the
going off of a parcel of hand-grenades. The King stood in
the balcony from 7 to 9 o'clock, and ordered the miners to
walk two and two before him; after which he sat down to
supper, the miners all the while entertaining his Majesty
