London, March 7. . . On Monday there was a numerous and
splendid appearance at court of the nobility and foreign
ministers in honour of her Majesty's birth-day;. . . [2d.
para. following:]
His Majesty wore upon this occasion a very rich suit, with
diamond buttons, and the Queen appeared at court in a stuff
camlet.
In the evening there was a ball at St. James's, and the
Lord Viscount Townshend gave a magnificent entertainment to
the foreign ministers, and other persons of distinction, at
his house in Cleveland Court; as did several of the great
officers of state on that joyous occasion.
The same day the New-England merchants (being above 80 in
number) gave a magnificent entertainment to his Majesty's
Governor of New-England, Jonathan Belcher Esq; and there
were present several of the Lords of Trade, Mr. Shute, late
governour of New-England, Mr. Johnson, of South, and Mr.
Burrington, of North Carolina: during the entertainment
there was a fine concert of musick.
