No. VII. Laudate cum hydraulis et organo.
There is something in musick so analogous to the humane
soul, as is declarative of its divine original, and points
us to some of those glorious purposes to which it is
design'd by a wife and omnipotent contriver. The author of
nature, who is the great fountain of harmony, has impress'd
upon the mind some representations and resemblances of his
own perfections, and endow'd the whole man with such tunable
powers & faculties, as make us easily susceptive of the
pleasures, that arise from the sweetnesses of sounds.
