Fable, from a late Magazine.
LADY AND THE FLEA,
A lady gay, of lofty name,
From court or play house stately came;
Her dress not far below a Queen,
And Princely-proud her gate and mien;
See how my person draws the eyes
Or all I meet! --- they speak surprized!
The instant that she speaks a flea
Skipt from her hose, and bit her knee;
She stoop'd and heard the insulting mite
Say to itself, This mortal Wight,
Was made for me! Fair luscious meat,
For fleas and lice and worms to eat.
