Rome, October 29. The Pope has forbidden, by an edict, the
extravagancies which usually attend the taking the habit and
profession of a nun. The young lady destined to take upon
her the religious habit, is to take off the dress of the
age, which used to be very gorgeous and magnificent, at the
interior grille of the church. None are to invited to the
ceremony but her nearest relations. Further his Holiness
forbids on these occasions, all sorts of musick in the
church, and entertainments in the parlours of the convent;
and all under very severe penalties.
