New-York,. . . Memorandum of the principal transactions of
the fleet and army at the Havannah, from Friday July 30, to
Saturday August 21, 1762.
On Friday, July 30th, a number of soldiers attacked the
Moro, or Moore Castle and took it by storm,. . . [7 lines]
On Tuesday, the 10th of August, at 12 o'clock, my Lord
Albermarle sent an officer with a drum to the governor of
the Havannah, to demand possession of the city, and in case
of refusal, to acquaint him, that he would set fire to it
the next morning. The governor sent for answer, that he
should not give up the city; that he had six months
ammunition to defend it. On Wednesday, the 11th of August,
at five o'clock in the morning all the batteries began to
play on the city and forts,. . . [5 lines] at which time the
governor sent out three officers, with a drum, in order to
desire them to think of terms of capitulation; which was
