New-York, March 30. Various indeed have been the arrival of
accounts since our last, respecting the Stamp Act, no less
than three from the Westward;--the first gave us reason to
expect troublesome times, by the preparations making in
England, said to be designed for America; tho' this did not
depress the spirits:--It had just the contrary effect:---The
two other accounts were forwarded from Maryland, the one we
received on Tuesday by express, the other yesterday, by a
gentleman from Philadelphia: The purport of both which last
accounts centered in this. That the Stamp-Act was repealed,
by the Marylanders accounts from England, so late as the
15th of February, received by two vessels, at Chester and
Oxford.--We are told the Philadelphians made great
rejoicings on Thursday, on this information, by bells,
drums, colours, fires, &c. and tho' many here doubt the
intelligence, we dare say there are but few, and very few
indeed, who do not with its confirmation.
