Newport. . . March 23. The Friends of Liberty, on the
approach of the eighteenth day of March, instant, the
anniversary of the repeal of the late Stamp Act, were
determined, on that memorable day, to make some public
exhibitions, demonstrative of their invariable adherence to
the cause of liberty and their country,--. . . [11 lines]
A royal salute was fired from the Point Battery; the bells
were rang, &c. The Hon. Metcalf Bowler, Esq; in the
evening, gave an elegant entertainment to a number of

Providence, March 21. Wednesday last being the anniversary
of the repeal of the late Stamp-Act, the same was celebrated
here by the free and loyal people of this town. The morning
was ushered in by the ringing of bells, and beating of
drums; the firing of guns continued most of the forenoon.---
In the evening a grand ball was given by the young gentlemen
of the town, at which was a very grand appearance of ladies;
and the evening concluded with the greatest satisfaction to
