Boston. June 30. Tuesday last being the anniversary of
his Majesty's Birth-Day, when he entered the 34th year of
his reign, upon the unanimous vote of the honourable House
of Representatives, unanimously conceiv'd by the honorable
board, the said day should be celebrated (with all the
demonstrations of joy that could be out of the metropolis)
the same was observ'd accordingly. . . [5th para..:]
In the evening a ball was given by Mrs. Gambier at
Concert-Hall, where were present his Excellency the
Governor, the commissioners of the customs, and a number of
gentlemen and ladies.
We are assured that Concert-Hall on Tuesday evening last
was guarded by ten soldiers!--a circumstance which has not
taken place in this town since the evening of the 5th of
March 1770, when the horrible massacre was perpetuated.
It is said that the company at Concert-Hall on Tuesday
evening did not disperse all the morning following. His
