[On the anniversary of the Boston Massacre, 5 March, long
para.:]. . . In the evening a great number of the true
friends of Constitutional Liberty met at Mrs. Clapham's in
King-Street, hear the spot where the tragical deed was
perpetrated; at which place was erected a lanthorn of
transparent paintings, adjusted to the balcony----In front,
exhibiting " the fatal effect of a standing army, posted in
a free city:". . . [2 paras]
In a window east of the balcony, was placed a large
transparent frame, containing the following verses.
Canst thou, Spectator, view this crimson'd scene, And
not reflect what these sad portraits mean ?
. . . [22 more lines]
At a quarter after nine, the precise time the evening when
the bloody scene was acted, the paintings were taken in, and
the bells set to tolling, which held 'till ten.
The decency with which the numerous spectators behaved,
thro' the whole of the evening, did great honor to the town,
we may venture to say, in the eyes of the whole province, a
great part of the representative body being present.
