[H.M.S.] Sheerness, Sept. 7. This day being appointed by
her Majesty's proclamation to be observed as a day of
publick thanksgiving for the great and glorious victory
wherewith it has pleased almighty God to bless her Majesty's
arms over the French and Bavarian Forces; our Governour,
attended by the garrison and Navy officers, went to the
chappel, and after divine service was ended, to the
batteries, where the governour had provided wine to drink
her Majesty's, his Royal Highness's, the Duke of
Marlborough's and other healths, which was done with a
discharge of the cannon; and he afterwards entertained the
company at dinner, and gave two barrels of beer to the
gunners and soldiers. In the evening there was a bonfire,
with illuminations, musick, dancing, and other diversions.
