Rome, May 7. 1712.  Some days ago the pope held a publick
consistory about the canonization of 3 new saints,. . . [32

The pope, attended by all the regular and secular clergy,
ambassadors, magistrates and other persons of note repairs
to the Church of St. Peter, which is to be hung on such
occasions with fine crimson damask with gold fringe, and
other ornaments, and as soon as he sat on the throne, and
the cardinals and others in their respective places, a
cardinal comes to him and desires that he wou'd be pleased
to proceed to the intended canonization.  They sing
afterwards the hymn Veni Creator, and afterwards the pope
publishes his decree in the following words:  . . . [16
