Balogne, January 8 N.S. Yesterday morning at 8 of the
clock, the Duke of Shrewsbury landed at Calais, under a
discharge of the cannon of the town and forts. The
commandant attended by several gentlemen, received him at
the water-side, and brought him to his house, the streets
being lined all the way with soldiers. The same respect was
paid him this morning upon his setting out for this place,
where he arrived in the afternoon, being met a league off by
a great number of officers and gentlemen. At his entrance
into the town he was receiv'd with the same honours as were
paid him at Calais, and conducted to the Duke d'Aumont's
house, where he was entertain'd with a consort of musick,
and a magnificent supper. The magistrates of the town
waited on him with a present of wine, and made him a speech
to compliment him upon his arrival. To morrow his grace
intends to proceed on his journey to Paris.
