From the Muscovite Camp before Stetin, Sept. 30. All our
batteries of cannon and mortars being in a readiness, it was
resolv'd to fire upon the place the 28th in the morning.
All the drums and hautboys of the army were ordered to meet
in the trenches about 9 of the clock, where they play'd
about an hour to the great surprize of the besieged, who
appeared on their walls to see what the meaning of it could
be; but about 10 we begun to fire from all our batteries at
once, and continued till the evening, which had such an
effect, that the inhabitants seeing about 160 of their best
houses burnt, and their churches batter'd down, they obliged
General Meyerfelt to desire a cessation of arms. The Sierus
Bessewitz and Bruckenthal were sent into the place, and told
the governour that the hostilities should be discontinued
for 7 hours only, and that he might take his measures
thereupon. . . [11 lines]
