The continuation of the treaty between his Excellency
Governour Burnet of New-York, &c. and the Five Nations of
Indians. . . [col.2, para. 3] Their captains are men of
middle age, who have signalized themselves in war, and their
superiority consists in the opinion the young men have of
their strength and bravery. The young Indians acted in
their war dances before the governours window at night,
several of their late exploits in war, by which it appears
that their manner of making war, is entirely in sculking and
surprizing their enemy. I have never heard of their
fighting any thing like a pitch'd battle in the field.
