14-21 Oct 1731:12 (1447)
We hear his Majesty has been pleased to grant to Mr.
Justinian Morse, of Barnet in the County of Hertford, a
patent for the sole making and vending a new invented organ,
which is brought to such perfection, that any person
unskilled in Musick may be instantly instructed to play
psalm tunes, voluntaries, anthems, or any other musick,
though never so difficult; and play a fuller thorough bass
than can be possibly perform'd by the fingers alone on
common keys, and done intirely without barrels; and may be
made either without open diapason, or the principal in the
front; and of any height, size or price. Designed for the
use of churches or chappels in such parishes as cannot
afford, or are unwilling to be at the expence of the
constant attendance of an organist; or for gentlemen's
houses.
