Leghorn, Feb. 15. N.E. [Re. the Royal Infante Don Carlos,
his Jewish support; to celebrate him the nation built a 90'
high pyramid-of-plenty filled with animals and food] the
Jews yesterday took their turn with their stately pyramid; a
feast that was very entertaining, and gave great
satisfaction. The great Prince having made the signal for
the plunder, great numbers of all sorts of fowls came
tumbling out of a cornucopia, at the sound of kettle drums
and trumpets, this cornucopia was held on top of the pyramid
by an image of 14 foot high. This being done the people
began to climb the pyramid, and the fountains began to force
up wine 20 feet high; which fell into a great bason, which
lasted till night, and afforded very good diversion, every
one striving to rob the other of his booty; but none were to
have arms of any kind; and for the greater security, the
square was surrounded with a strong guard of soldiers.
