London, February 24. 1736. They write from North-Britain,
that the Rev. Mr. Peter Rae, Minister of the Gospel at
Kirkonnel, has finish'd a curious astronomical & musical
clock, which has cost him many years study and labour, and
performs to the very great surprize of all that have seen
it. Besides all the motions of an ordinary clock, it chimes
on fifteen bells every third hour through the week till
Saturday night, but will not chime after ten that night till
the sabbath be over, and then begins again of its own
accord. . . [35 lines]
