From the Paris Alamain. Paris, March 13. t'other day an
Abbe was put into the Bastile for presuming to jest upon the
Emperor, and saying that the palace of St. Germain's was
fitting up for him. Several little epigrams and songs have
been made on the tenth being laid upon labour and industry.
Among other songs are the following.
SUR LE DIXIEME DE L'INDUSTRIE.
On met dedans ce lieu maudit,
Des impots jusques sur l'esprit.
Bientot l'amour & la tendresse-
Payeron la capitation;
Et l'on n'aura plus de maitresse.
Sans craindre l'imposition.
Imitated extempore.
ON THE TENTH BEING LAID ON INDUSTRY.
Who can to this curs'd law submit,
Which taxes genius, Le.r[ ]g, wit !
Soon love will the sad sentence share "
And all must pay who court the fair.
