London, Novemb, 2. Last Tuesday being the birth-day of his
Majesty, who then enter'd into the sixty-second year of his
age, there was a grand court to compliment his Majesty on
that occasion, when the following Ode by Colley Cibber, Esq.
Poet Laureat, and set to Musick by Dr. Greene, Master of his
Majesty's Band of Musicians was perform'd before the Royal-
Family in the Great Council Chamber: the vocal parts by
Mess. Gates, Beard, Savage, the Rev. Mr. Bailey, Mr. Wass,
Metz, and the boys of the Chapel-Royal; the instrumental by
his Majestys Band of Musicians, and several other
performers.
And at night there was a grand ball in the great Ball-Room
of St. James's, and the nobility made a most splendid
appearance on that occasion.
THE ODE.
Recitative.
Again to Caesar's natal day,
In humble strains,
His grateful swains,
Their joyous Songs shall rise.
Air and chorus.
Sing Britons ! to Augustus sing !
Explore the proudest soil:
The world hath no such isle,
No nation such a King.
. . . [Air, recitative, duet, air, chorus follow.]
Chorus.
Then o'er the flood he sweeps his car.
Proclaims his sway, and kills the war.
