Extract of a letter from Bath, dated May 9. Scarce had the
bell of St. Mary's Chapel done ringing for morning prayers
on Thursday last, before a smoke was observed to break out
between the tiles of the roof of a house belonging to Thomas
Masters Esq; in Queen square; and this house being part of
the charming building that fronts the north side of the
square, the better part of the pike was robb'd of its beauty
in a short time; so that while one end of the building
shewed a specimen of Corinth in all its glory, the other
appear'd an august, dreadful ruin. . . [3 more paras.]
