To a person on his laborious search after her who has more
than once violated the marriage contract, by deserting his
bed. "Verbum Sapienti sat est."
Happy the man of reason, freed from strife,
By the elopement of a wanton wife:--
Then why (my friend) will you thus madly run
To seek a plague you more than racks should shun ?
The link she broke has freed you from the chain;
Then why should freedom give a man such pain ?
Henceforth the faithless jilt so far detest,
That if she wanders east, be sure run west.
