Index Entry | Bells, in New Haven, toll for beginning of Stamp Act |
Location | New Haven |
Citation | BNL.765.068 7 Nov 1765:21 (0 [second edition]) New-Haven, November 1. This morning the bells, which are all near neighbours, began to toll here; and still continue tolling and saluting each other at suitable intervals. They seem to speak the word No--vem--ber, in the most melancholy tone imaginable. (They had also a funeral ceremony at Hartford.) |
