The Duke of Marlborough paid a debt for the city of Oxford, which had lain heavy on the inhabitants for more than half a century, amounting in the whole to 5983L. 7s. 2d. On this occasion the bells were set a- ringing, and the freemen were entertained by the liberality of his grace at more than 50 houses. |
