On Saturday last a melancholy affair happened on board the
sloop Tryan, Amasa Lewis, Master, bound to the Vineyard:
about two leagues without the light-house, Solomon Weeks,
who is part owner of the vessel, carelessly and foolishly
took a small-arm that was on board in order to scare Isaac
Butler, who was dancing upon deck with the Captain, who was
at helm, he not knowing the gun was loaded, and by the
rolling of the vessel, it went off, and the wad entered the
thigh of said Butler, who bled to death by the time they got
up to the Long Wharf. --Another caution against playing with
guns foolishly.
