From the Cape-Fear Mercury, of May 29. Extract of a letter
from an officer of distinction to a gentleman in Brunswick,
dated Alamansee-Camp [North Carolina], May 13, 1771. [Re.
military engagement; line 43] On the 16th, in consequence
of a resolution unanimously entered into the evening before,
we marched about sun-rise in search of these rebels, whom we
found encamped about three miles from our station. When we
came within half a mile of them, three guns were fired as a
signal to form in order of battle, which was immediately
done, in two lines about an hundred yards from each other:
They answered our guns by three huzzas and by beating to
arms, by which they showed how resolved they were to give us
battle; . . .
