Quebec, October 13. 1744. On the 18th ult. arrived from
London, in the Canadian, Capt. Abbot, a bell weighing 2500
lbs. being a present from his Lordship the Bishop of Quebec
to the Cathedral Church of Notre Dame in this city; and on
Thursday morning last, at 10 o'clock, it was baptized by the
name of Louisa; The sponsors were the Abby Montgolphir,
Superior of St. Sulpice of Montreal, and Mademoiselle De
Lery: The ceremony was preformed in the aforesaid church
by the coadjutant Bishop, assisted by a number of
respectable clergymen, and a crowded audience, with all the
solemnity usual on the like occasion; and the whole
concluded with a mass, celebrated by the coadjutor, and a
solemn Te Deum.
