Index Entry | Fiddlers, in Dublin, play song [beg] We'll to the colonies boys |
Location | Dublin |
Citation | CC-H.773.081 7-14 Dec 1773:13 (468) Extract of a letter from Dublin, Sept. 17. As to the spirit of emigrating it prevails to such a pitch, that a song has been lately made, which is in high vogue amongst the vulgar; it is set to one of Jack Latin's tunes, and begins thus: "We'll to the colonies boys Try whether we can get work or not." This is played by every cat gut scraper in Dublin and sung with great joviality by different mobs, who almost nightly parade the streets. . . [15 lines] |
