SEASONABLE THOUGHTS.
Amidst Belona's dire alarms,
The rage of war and pride of arms;
High hopes to disappoint our foes,
Repel the wrongs they meant t' impose
T' ensure our rights with sov'reign power,
Wide stretch'd on this extended shore,
Through many climes of richest soil
That crows with plenty rural toil,
Open for trace, to fill her stores,
With foreign goods from distant shores:
While freedom fires more generous minds
To form the noblest best designs;
Wakes genius on the letter'd page,
Intent, from every former age,
To learn their arts, improve them still
With ripest, patriotic skill
T' adorn and bless the commonwealth:
