An extract of a letter from a gentleman in Glascow, to his
friend in Hartford, dated April 6, 1756. As to the
differences subsisting betwixt us and France, 'tis hard to
judge what to make of them: There is an addition of ten
regiments to our marching troops, and there are seventy
companies of marines raised, and recruiting to 100 private
men each, one captain, three lieutenants, five serjeants,
and as many drummers and corporals to every company; we have
above 300 ships of war in commission. . . [6 lines listing
