Charlestown, South Carolina, Oct. 4. Saturday last a number
of the principal Mechanicks of this town assembled in order
to fix upon the six gentlemen to represent them in the
ensuing assembly, which being concluded upon, they removed
to a large white Oak Tree, Adjoining Christo. Gladsden's
pasture, which they consecrated by the name of Liberty Tree:
when the celebrated Liberty Song was sung; and at dark the
Tree was ornamented with 45 lights, and fireworks played
off, and suitable toasts given by the gentleman who was
chosen president:
