The following epitaph, engraved upon a tomb in a church-yard
in Dorsetshire, was answered by a gentleman, upon the
widower's marrying again in a fortnight.
THE EPITAPH
For me, deceas'd, weep not, my dear;
I am not dead, but sleepeth here:
Your time will come, prepare to die;
Wait but a while, you'll follow I.
THE ANSWER
I am not griev'd, my dearest life,
Sleep on-- I've got another wife;
And therefore cannot come to thee,
For I must go to bed with she.
