London. The Scotch are not a little vexed at their
countryman's (Lord Dunmore) late conduct. At first they
puffed him as the patron of America. Gage was nothing.
Dunmore was every thing. But this brave man, at the very
time when the Assembly were sitting, and when his presence
was most necessary, abdicated his government. His council,
even that council who had flattered him of late, blame him
for retiring before there was any apparent danger.
In story, we're told,
That heroes of old,
Have fled from their enemies blows;
But Dunmore, for his glory,
Is the first in all story,
That fled without seeing his foes.
